AIESEC International Exchange!
What is an AIESEC Exchange?
AIESEC’s International Exchange Program offers international experiences which aim to provide young people with personal and professional development opportunities. The program provides individuals with the opportunity to gain skills around leadership and management and to apply learn knowledge and skill to a practical environment while studying at university.
How long does an International Exchange last?
AIESEC offers international internships that are available for you to complete at any time throughout the year, and last between 6 weeks and 2 years (depending on the internship). This means you can take a semester off university and go on Exchange for 6 months, or you can go on Exchange over your Summer break and still come home before the start of a new semester.
Where can I go and what can I do?
AIESEC’s International Exchange Program offers a wide variety of internships, but most of them can be broadly categorised by the following characteristics:- There are very few internships available in highly developed countries, such as America, France, England or New Zealand, and the internships that are available are highly competitive.
- Most internships will be found in the following geographic areas: Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
- All internships will allow you to have a positive impact in the community in which you work. This can mean ‘volunteer work’, such as providing education on HIV/AIDS to children in Africa, or it can mean working as a marketing manager for a not-for-profit in India.
Will I get paid?
Different internships offer different financial compensation. Often, one of the following will happen:- You will receive a small wage that covers basic costs, such as food, transport and accommodation; or
- You will receive little/no wage, but free accommodation, free food and free transport to and from work.
Essentially, you will not receive a large salary while on exchange. However, you will have basic needs provided for.
What are the benefits of AIESEC’s International Exchange Program?
- Experience a new culture – You will be living in a different country and working with locals, allowing you to experience a new culture and, maybe, giving you different perspective on the world. And, while you're at it, you might also have some fun!
- Personal and professional development – Participating in AIESEC’s International Exchange Program will provide you with two unique opportunities to develop a range of personal and professional skills. First, working with AIESEC at your university, and then later while on exchange, you will be working in challenging environments, working in teams and gaining valuable leadership and management experience.
- Differentiate yourself – Stand out from the crowd by doing something different, and gaining a unique set of skills in the process.
- Make a positive impact – All of the internships offered through the Summer Overseas program will, in some way, allow you to have a positive impact on the community/communities in which you work. The nature of this impact is determined by the internship you take on.
