Exchange Process
I am interested in applying for an AIESEC Exchange - what do I do ?
1. Register your interest and apply
It is highly recommended that you attend one of our information sessions or read through this website for more information regarding the Exchanges we have on offer and also the exchange process (see below). If you cannot attend any information sessions, you can e-mail pearl.leung@aiesec.net or n.patel@aiesec.net to arrange an appointment for more information.
The application form can be found HERE.
2. Interview Preparation
Once your written application has successfully passed, you will be invited to an informal pre-screening session conducted by AIESEC members. This is where you learn more about AIESEC and the exchange process in detail, and acquire preparation for your panel interview. It is also a chance to ask any further questions and make sure that an AIESEC Exchange is the right thing for you. Attendance to this session is compulsory.
3. Member Review Board (MRB)
If you are confident that an AIESEC Exchange is right for you, you will be asked to attend a panel interview or what we call a Member Review Board (MRB). The panel consists of externals who may be AIESEC Alumni, corporates or psychologists. The interview panel is there to ensure exchange participants are ready for exchange and ready to face the challenges of living in a different culture.
4. Matching to an Internship
It may be possible that you have already been 'matched' before you get to this stage. This is because AIESEC usually promotes specific exchange programs where there are reserved positions on a first-come-first-served basis. Otherwise, after passing the MRB, you will gain access to the AIESEC Exchange database which consists of hundreds of internship opportunities in over 100 countries. AIESEC members will assist in choosing and matching you with your desired internship to ensure you go to internships with a good track record for quality experiences. Each Exchange Participant will be looked after by an AIESEC member from UNSW (also know as an Exchange Participant Manager).
5. Pre-Departure Preparation
Prior to your departure, AIESEC members will run a session to ensure you are prepared for going to a new country. You will also receive support in all the logistical aspects of your trip.
6. Realisation of Exchange
Once you have flown off to the country of your internship, you will still receive support from AIESEC UNSW and be in constant communication with your Exchange Participant Manager to ensure things are going smoothly. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by the incoming exchange team of the AIESEC Committee in that other country. Be prepared to have instant friends when you arrive in a foreign country!
7. Post-Internship
When you come back from your internship, AIESEC UNSW members de-brief you on your internship experience and provide support to help you adjust back to the Australian culture. AIESEC loves its exchange participants and you will be highly encouraged to complete the AIESEC experience and become an active member in our committee. Otherwise there will be plenty of opportunities to share your impactful and life-changing exchange experiences such as Exchange Participant dinners and events where AIESEC is promoted.
